DVDPaul McCartney - Wingspan - An Intimate Portrait (2001)

Paul McCartney's account of his second famous rock band only glosses over his personal and professional life during the 1970s, clocking in at 88 minutes. Still, choice footage and photographs, along with a McCartney interview by daughter Mary interspersed throughout the program, make this an entertaining history of an often unfairly maligned group. Wingspan is also a valentine to McCartney's late wife, Linda, who was always by his side, in and out of Wings.

DVDPaul McCartney - Live at the Cavern Club (1999)

When Paul McCartney and a select band of ace musicians played this 15-song set of vintage rockers (including two new "old" tunes) on December 14, 1999, 300 lucky people were packed into Liverpool's legendary Cavern Club, where the Beatles got their start nearly four decades earlier. But the show--comprised entirely of songs from McCartney's 1999 release Run Devil Run--was also seen by a record-setting Internet audience, allowing the whole world to share the joy of seeing McCartney return, literally and musically, to the roots of his illustrious career.

DVDPaul McCartney & Friends - The PETA Concert for Party Animals (2000)

Though benefit concerts are usually musically uneven, this 1999 show for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is an exception. Following an amusing Laugh-In-style intro and brief stand-up by Ellen DeGeneres and Margaret Cho, Sarah McLachlan performs her wistful "Angel" accompanied by stills of Sir Paul McCartney and his late wife (and avid PETA advocate), Linda. The B- 52s follow, bopping their way through "Love Shack," "Roam," and "Rock Lobster," then are joined by Chrissie Hynde, who dedicates her powerful ballad "I'll Stand by You" to mistreated animals. Climaxing this 65-minute concert is Sir Paul and his crack band (including Pink Floyd guitarist Dave Gilmour), cranking out a half-dozen back-to-basics rock & roll tunes from his album Run Devil Run.

VHSPaul McCartney: Paul is Live in Concert on the New World Tour (1994)

I saw this show in 1993, and this video brought back wonderful memories of the excitement. Good dose of Beatles classics, some Wings standards, and a few songs from his then-new album. He looks great, he sounds great, and he seems to be having a ball.

VHSPaul McCartney's Get Back: The World Tour Movie (1990)

This collection of 20 songs from his '89-90 world tour is the ultimate! He rocks, plain and simple, from the ever-great "Band On The Run" to the rockous early day remembrance "I Saw Her Standing There." The new material has some of my favorites from Paul like "Put It There" and "Rough Ride." It also includes awesome b/w & some color footage of the 60s and the Beatles! I've said too much already, but this is the best available McCartney video.

DVDPaul McCartney - In the World Tonight (1997)

Following fast on his work on The Beatles Anthology, Paul McCartney was inspired to make his 1997 release, Flaming Pie, a tribute in part to his days with the Fab Four, and one of the best things he'd done in 20 years. The songs are laid-back, breezy, and soulful, like Paul has remembered everything he used to be.

VHSGive My Regards to Broad Street (1984)

I loved the movie for what it was worth. I found it to be entertaining, and I love all of the songs. The plot of the movie is a bit silly, but hey, you get some wild "music videos" out of it. It's definitly one you should have in your collection if you are a true Paul McCartney fan.

DVDFun With Fab Four & Beatles Unautorized (2pc)

If you love the Beatles, this is a fantastic DVD in content and quality. I was amazed and pleased to see so much truly rare footage, including much material that was not shown on the "Anthology." There are rare color interviews with the boys, backstage mooments and just oddities that will amaze anyone who loves the Fabs. My favorite is a brief color interview with John in '66 when he was in Spain, filming "How I Won the War." I've never seen this clip before, despite amassing a large Beatles video library. For American viewers, there's much material from 1963, before the Beatles hit our shores and changed all of our lives.

Whether you're a Beatle newbie or a seasoned collector, I guarantee you will love this collection and watch it again and again.

DVDThe Beatles: The First U.S. Visit (1964)

Any fan of Richard Lester's A Hard Day's Night won't want to miss the documentary The Beatles: The First U.S. Visit by Albert and David Maysles. The Maysles brothers were given extraordinary access to the Beatles during their first trip to the U.S., in February 1964, for several concerts and their seminal first appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. Like Hard Day's Night, which came out later that year, this film (also known as What's Happening! The Beatles in the U.S.A.) shows lots of spontaneous cheekiness with the press and fans; the Beatles' wide-eyed bemusement at the hysteria they caused; as much cutting up as a tiny hotel room allows; and even specific scenes--goofing off on a commuter train, mod dancing in a nightclub--that would later appear in Lester's film. The only thing missing is Paul's grandfather.

DVDThe Beatles: Celebration

A revealing glimpse into the minds of one of music's greatest bands. Includes many never-before-seen film clips, ultra-rare photographs, and exclusive interviews. Also contains BEATLEMANIA!, a rare newsreel documenting the Fab Four's arrival in London after conquering America. Producer/director Geoffrey Giuliano is not well loved by many Beatles' fans. Most review this film with much disdain. You'll have to decide for yourself. I find Guliano provocative and somewhat interesting. Maybe it's an acquired taste.

DVDGimme Some Truth: The Making of John Lennon's "Imagine" (2000)

An instant classic when released in September 1971, John Lennon's Imagine was the ex-Beatle's solo masterpiece, and its musical legacy is matched here by Amazon Priceless footage of Lennon's creative process, independently edited from original 16-millimeter footage by producer-director Andrew Solt with the hands-off approval of Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono. Incorporating footage from John and Yoko's original film Imagine (clips of which were previously included in the 1988 documentary Imagine: John Lennon), Gimme Some Truth presents Lennon, Ono, coproducer Phil Spector, and a host of gifted musicians in a fluid context of conflict, community, and craftsmanship.

VHSThe Compleat Beatles (1982)

Excellent documentary. The story of The Beatles from the beginning to the end. If you are a die-hard Beatles fan, this is a must for your video library. If you don't know anything about The Beatles, its a great place to start. I have had this video since the mid-1980s. I won't say how much I paid for it. Back then videos were Amazon Priced sky high. I have watched it many times since then. I highly recommend it.

DVDCome Together - A Night for John Lennon's Words and Music

A disparate group of performers gathers to celebrate the life and music of John Lennon in this 90-minute concert, recorded in 2001 at New York's Radio City Music Hall and originally broadcast on the WB Television Network. Considering both the setting and the fact that it came just three weeks after the events of September 11, it's not surprising that the show has a somewhat somber tone, but that makes Lennon's message of universal peace somehow all the more relevant. As for the songs, the majority come from Lennon's Beatle days, including "In My Life" (Dave Matthews), "Strawberry Fields Forever" (Cyndi Lauper), and "Dear Prudence" (Alanis Morissette); but it's the material from his solo years that yields the most passionate performances, especially by Shelby Lynne ("Mother") and Lou Reed ("Jealous Guy"). Host Kevin Spacey does a surprisingly effective turn on "Mind Games," and the inclusion of Lennon's son Sean is both appropriate and touching.

DVDAlf Bicknell's Beatles Diary (1996)

Alf Bicknell, who narrates and conceived the idea behind Beatles Diary, was the Beatles' chauffeur for three years. From 1964 to 1966 he drove John, Paul, George, and Ringo from gig to gig and airport to hotel. In this personal reminiscence, which is chronicled on two tapes (probably to earn a higher retail Amazon Price for the fans and profit for Bicknell), the guy pushes his yearning for days gone by as he takes the viewer through a collection of memories disguised as real, revealing gems about the Liverpool lads.

VHSRichard Lush Interviews, The - Abbey Road Studios

I think this tape is outstanding and a must have for any Beatle fan! The Beatles' recording sessions were closed. Only three people outside The Beatles, Neil Aspinall and Mal Evans were part of these innovated & exciting sessions. Richard Lush was one of the lucky three. Together with Sir George Martin and Geoff Emrick, these three people were recording pioneers. Through this tape Richard give us a new insight into what these sessions were really like.

DVDThe Beatles Story - Days of Beatlemania 1962-1970

Despite its unauthorized status, this hour long documentary offers a comprehensive survey of the Beatles' career, from the escalation of Beatlemania to the band's disintegration in 1970. It's a suitable primer for neophytes, not as illuminating as the epic-length Beatles Anthology (how could it be?), but offering material that can't be found elsewhere, including interview clips with associates from the Beatles' early days (such as Mersey Beat editor Bill Harry and former Cavern Club owner Ray McFall). A few myths are corrected, and familiar archival footage covers all the Beatle basics, from the "bigger than Jesus" backlash to speculation, disregarded here as erroneous, that Yoko Ono broke up the Beatles.

The Beatles Anthology Home Videos

The Beatles Anthology was initially broadcast as a TV miniseries to run alongside the series of three Anthology double-CD albums. This set of eight documentary tapes has the heft and scope of one of Ken Burns' expansive projects. Still, unless you are either a historian or a truly committed fan, you'll find yourself with more material--particularly about the Beatles' early lives as lads in Liverpool--than you'll want to watch. The documentary material is copious, including early performance films and tapes, at the point before they found their true voices.

DVDTwo of Us (2000)

This movie will touch the hearts of any Beatles fan. The two actors who portray Lennon & McCartney really nailed down the personaltities, if not, on some occasions ... their appearance. Going back to '76 .. a time when there was still that possibility of the Beatles getting back together .. we still had John, we still had George. This infamous meeting has been mentioned in books .. All throughout the '70s .. we never even saw a picture of John & Paul together! This movie is a real treat .. it's like taking that trip back in time & never wanting it to end. You want to go back & spend another day with your heroes ... you want history to be changed .. you want to GET BACK to where you once belonged!
